"A Purpose Driven Life’s 5 step Process To a Goals Attainment

1. Form a clear mental image of the outcome in its entirety. Not in your imagination, but a vivid visualization. The difference is that in visualization in your heart you also feel that it is possible.
2. Induce some positive pressure on yourself. You can accomplish this through a public pledge with the people who you value in your life.
3. Define your financial, social, spiritual goals. Use an idea book and picture book to keep you inspired and motivated. Examine your relationship to time.
4. Create an empowering habit designed to attain your goals. Make sure you bring complete awareness into it, don’t let it become a mechanical action. Little consistent actions will yield huge results.
5. Enjoy the process and keep growing. This life is an amazing adventure; make sure you learn from the ride in both the ups and downs."

relationship advice

I tried to frame their whole bodies but I was too slow and clumsy so this is what I got (after a bit of cropping). I think it’s a happy accident.

This brings to mind three things:

1. "One day…little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers. I have a dream today." (M.L. King, and don’t think I’m not aware of the banality of quoting something so significant in this context; I’m just reporting my thoughts here.)

2. "Hand in hand. No don’t ask me to apologize, I won’t ask you to forgive me. If I’m gonna go down, you’re gonna come with me." (Elvis Costello)

3. This article by Stephanie Rosenbloom called "A Show of Hands" from the NYT of 10/5/06, which you can no longer read online without subscribing:

ON a brisk autumn afternoon, in the shadow of the marble arch in Washington Square Park, a couple visiting from Ohio walked along holding hands like two teenagers going steady, decades after ”going steady” went out of vogue.

When a stranger asked why they had chosen to join hands during their stroll, the man, Dave Findlay, looked at his wife of seven years and answered in a word: ”Connection.”

Or as the Beatles sang back in 1963: ”When I’ll feel that something, I want to hold your hand.”

Those simple lyrics turned an expression of teenage longing and first romantic steps into a No. 1 hit. Yet today, when Justin Timberlake is at the top of the charts with ”SexyBack” and the digital airwaves are filled with steamy lyrical declarations (”I’m into havin’ sex, I ain’t into makin’ love” sang 50 Cent in ”In da Club”), couples like Dave and Carey Findlay still intertwine fingers, kiss palms and link pinkies as they meander through parks, cross streets and snake through crowds.

”Hand-holding is the one aspect that’s not been affected by the sexual revolution,” said Dalton Conley, a professor and chairman of the department of sociology at New York University. ”It’s less about sex than about a public demonstration about coupledom.”

Nowadays hand-holding has attracted the interest of scientists who are studying its effects on the body and mind. And sexual health educators say it is a much-discussed topic among gay students who now publicly hold hands more than ever before but still must consider whether they want to declare their sexuality.

”I think it remains more important in an era of perhaps more liberal sexual norms,” Dr. Conley said. ”It remains this thing to be doled out.”

To hold someone’s hand is to offer them affection, protection or comfort. It is a way to communicate that you are off the market. Practically speaking, it is an efficient way to squeeze through a crowd without losing your partner. People do it during vigils, marches, weddings and funerals.

Usually it connotes something innocuous and sweet about a couple and their relationship. In rare instances, it takes on added potency, such as when President George W. Bush held the hand of Crown Prince Abdullah of Saudi Arabia in Crawford, Tex., last year — an act of respect and affection in Arab countries — reminding some people of the film ”Fahrenheit 9/11,” which depicted the Bush family’s close business ties to Saudi leaders and which ignited conspiracy theories.

But, over all, few things are more innocent than a child grabbing the hand of a parent, for protection, direction and, as Mr. Findlay put it, connection. And with many children these days closer and more outwardly affectionate to their parents, chances are you have spotted a mother and her teenage daughter and perhaps even a father and his adolescent son ambling through a mall, scurrying through a crosswalk or strolling along, hand in hand.

Adult children and their elderly parents also hold hands, for balance, support and as a sign of love.

As for romantic couples, the opinions about hand-holding are as varied as fingerprints. But most people agree that it has merely changed, not lost favor.

”I think that for sure college students hold hands just like the old days,” said Sandra L. Caron, a professor of family relations and human sexuality at the University of Maine in Orono.

If they do, it is likely only after they are deep into a relationship — not in those early days of budding romance, when a touch of hands was the first act of intimacy between a couple. That was the hand-holding that the Beatles wrote about. (Followed swiftly by the sexual revolution, whose equivalent anthem might be The Rolling Stones’ ”Let’s Spend the Night Together.”)

Among more than a half-dozen students at the University of Maine, there seemed to be two universal truths: that hand-holding is the least nauseating public display of affection and that holding hands has become more significant than other seemingly deeper expressions of love and romance.

”It is a lot more intimate to hold hands nowadays than to kiss,” said Joel Kershner, 23. Because of that, he said, reaching for someone’s hand these days has more potential for rejection than leaning in for a smooch at a party where alcohol is flowing.

Libby Tyler, 20, said it was ”weird that hand-holding is more serious,” but true. ”It’s something that you lead up to,” she said.

There is nothing casual about it any more, said Rachel Peters, 22. ”Hand-holding is something that usually people do once they’ve confirmed they’re a couple,” she said.

But if that is not complicated enough, where you choose to hold hands also has meaning, the students said.

Drew Fitzherbert, 21, said that public hand-holding ”shows that commitment not only to you and your partner but everyone else in the community.”

Dr. Conley of N.Y.U. agreed. ”In the dark movie theater, in the dorm room, that’s a very different social act,” he said.

Are people holding hands as much as they once did? That’s impossible to quantify. But Gregory T. Eells, the director of counseling and psychological services at Cornell University in Ithaca, said he didn’t think so.

”I see more people on their cellphone than holding hands,” he said, adding, ”To some extent we are trading real face-to-face relationships, where there’s touch and body language, for electronic ones.”

Peter Shawn Bearman, a professor of sociology and the director of the Institute for Social and Economic Research and Policy at Columbia University, said that hand-holding in crowded cities like New York may simply be impractical.

”Maybe if the proportion of hand-holders has indeed gone down it has more to do with density (of humans) than the devaluing of hand-holding as a romantic signal,” he wrote in an e-mail message.

Whatever degree of hand-holding may be happening, there are good reasons to cultivate the habit — reasons would-be hand-graspers may wish to pass along to their hands-in-pockets partners.

”Based on what we’ve seen, when we get more physical intimacy we get better relationships, whether a mother and an infant or a couple,” said Tiffany Field, the director of the Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami School of Medicine.

Even monkeys understand the importance of a hand squeeze every now and then. In ”Good Natured: The Origins of Right and Wrong in Humans and Other Animals,” Dr. Frans B. M. de Waal, a primatologist at Emory University, wrote that some monkeys hold hands in reconciliation after a fight.

James Coan, an assistant professor of psychology and the neuroscience graduate program at the University of Virginia, has studied the impact of human touch, particularly how it affects the neural response to threatening situations, and said the results of a recent study were more dramatic than he expected.

”We found that holding the hand of really anyone, it made your brain work a little less hard in coping,” Dr. Coan said, adding that any sort of hand-holding relaxes the body.

The study, which will be published this year in the journal Psychological Science, involved 16 couples who were rated happily married based on the answers in a detailed questionnaire. The wives were put inside an M.R.I. machine and were told they were to receive mild electric shocks to an ankle. Brain images showed that regions of the women’s brains that had been activated in anticipation of pain and that were associated with negative emotions decreased when their husbands reachedinto the machine.

”With spouse hand-holding you also stop looking for other signs of danger and you start feeling more secure,” said Dr. Coan, who led the study. ”If you’re in a really strong relationship, you may be protected against pain and stress hormones that may have a damaging effect on your immune system.”

Perhaps it is why so many people crave it.

Blogs and online forums are rife with complaints of those who say their significant other does not want to hold hands. ”When we go out, we always have a blast, but the one thing that bothers me is that he never holds my hand in public,” writes a woman on a ”love advice” forum on www.lovingyou.com.

For older couples, letting go of hand-holding may be one more sign that they are pressed for time and too swamped for little acts of intimacy.

”When do we make time to hold hands?,” said Dr. Eells of Cornell, talking about his own marriage of 15 years. ”Not very often.”

The couple is often busy shuttling children to and from school and extracurricular activities, not strolling through parks like characters in a Georges Seurat painting.

Sometimes, though, even errands provide opportunities. Recently, Dr. Eells said, he and his 9-year-old daughter were caught in a downpour after her cheerleading practice. The two grabbed hands and raced off into the rain together. When they finally splashed over to the car, the damp girl turned her face to her father. ”That was awesome,” she sighed.

Edible Uses
Edible Parts: Seed.
Edible Uses:

Seed – cooked. Rich in protein but without much flavour[183]. The seedpods are about 25mm long and contain 3 – 5 small seeds[235]. They are freely borne in the plants native environment, but will have to be very freely produced in this country if it is to be a worthwhile crop[K].

Medicinal Uses
Plants For A Future can not take any responsibility for any adverse effects from the use of plants. Always seek advice from a professional before using a plant medicinally.

Antipruritic; Ophthalmic.

A leaf tea has been used in the treatment of itchy skin[222, 257]. Five seeds have been placed in the eye at night and washed out in the morning to treat trachoma[257].
Other Uses : None known
Cultivation details
Requires a moist but well-drained soil in full sun[200]. Plants are often found growing in clay soils in the wild[274]. Suitable for the wild garden or other naturalistic plantings[200]. In favourable situations this plant can self-sow to the point of nuisance[200]. This plant is being evaluated by the Land Institute of Salina, Kansas, as an edible legume for growing with perennial grains in a non-tillage permaculture system[183]. It is certainly worthy of more attention in this country, though the small seed size mitigates against its use[K]. This species has a symbiotic relationship with certain soil bacteria, these bacteria form nodules on the roots and fix atmospheric nitrogen. Some of this nitrogen is utilized by the growing plant but some can also be used by other plants growing nearby[200].

Propagation
Seed – pre-soak for 12 hours in warm water and then sow in a cold frame in the spring. Prick out the seedlings into individual pots as soon as they are large enough to handle and plant them out into their permanent positions in early summer. If you have sufficient seed then it is probably worthwhile sowing some in situ in mid to late spring.

These people are sociopaths. They have no feelings of guilt or remorse. They can pass a polygraph, despite being guilty.

The best way to describe people like Colorado shooter James Holmes is they are actors. They are people with deep-seated disturbances who live in two worlds — the real world and their own world behind closed doors. They are able to fool us all.

In the real world, they go about work, school and play as though completely normal, one of us. They laugh, they strive, they love. Many times, during my 30 years on the job at Miami-Dade Police Department, I heard the words, “He seemed like such a nice boy!”

Serial killer Ted Bundy seemed like a nice boy.

But when the door closes behind them and the rest of the world is shut out, they wallow in fantasy. Some are sexually based. Some are hate or power based. A Jihad terrorist blows up innocent people based on a religious and/or political calling.

Others are inexplicable. Thus, the Colorado shooter.

James Holmes will become the subject of media pundits and experts across the country with every hypothesis imaginable trying to determine where the blame lies. What made him go crazy? What about parents? Drugs? Most of all, why didn’t anyone see the signs?

The world has seven billion people, and the U.S. has 310 million of them. We cannot monitor every human being.

Holmes might have been a loner, a weirdo, a non-conformist, but none of these traits is illegal nor reason to bring someone in for psychiatric testing. Having never been arrested, he slipped through the proverbial cracks.

Ted Bundy, who did not always sexually assault his victims, was a bright law student with good looks and a mountain of charm. A typical Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, he lived a life fooling everyone, normal as apple pie. He used trust to accomplish his goals. When those doors closed behind him, he lived in fantasyland, pondering where and how to carry out the impulses that drove him to violent behavior.

These people are sociopaths. They have no feelings of guilt or remorse. They can pass a polygraph, despite being guilty.

Sociopaths are not limited to killers. They can be your neighbors, your politicians, even your family members. They live a life of deception in order to achieve their goals, even if only for money and power. Unfortunately, we have no choice but to accept the imperfections of an imperfect world. That’s certainly no consolation to the victims in Colorado, living or deceased.

Pro- and anti-gun warriors are coming out to defend and/or to condemn guns in America. The Second Amendment is here to stay, though it’s not impossible to pass laws that restrict the nature of guns people can buy and own. It isn’t sensible that average citizens can own assault weapons of mass destruction that are intended for military conflict.

I came to know hundreds of violent criminals during my police career. Most had a conscience. The most dangerous were the ones without one, because they were just like you and me.

…..item 2)…. ‘I did not kill Kathleen!’ Drew Peterson’s dramatic courtroom outburst as he is sentenced to 38 YEARS in prison for murdering his third wife’

Justice served: Former Illinois police officer Drew Peterson was sentenced to 38 years in prison for murdering his third wife, Kathleen Savio, in 2004

.

One of Kathleen’s Savio’s relatives in the court audience responded by shouting back, ‘Yes, you did.’ That person was then removed from the Joliet courtroom.

Peterson’s outburst came as a judge was preparing to sentence him for murdering Savio in 2004. Illinois does not have the death penalty, and the 59-year-old Peterson had faced a maximum of 60 years behind bars.

The dramatic moment followed emotional impact statements from the victim’s family, who spoke about the pain of their loss.

Savio’s sister Anna Marie Savio-Doman told the judge: ‘My loss of my baby sister is beyond words.

‘There will be no more birthday parties, backyard gatherings, holiday celebrations or other family activities to share. The laughter, hugs, guidance, advice, sense of security and those opportunities to say, "I love you" are forever gone.’

Chicago Tribune reported that Peterson, who did not testify during the trial, addressed the judge by saying: ‘Good day, my name is Drew Peterson. I hope I don’t aggravate the situation here, but I have a lot of things to be said." Then he screamed, ‘I did not kill Kathleen!’

After being scolded by Judge Edward Burmila for making outbursts ‘designed to aggravate people,’ the convicted killer issued an apology.

‘I’m sorry, your honor. I must have been woozy,’ Peterson said.

The disgraced police officer went on to accuse the state police of falsifying reports and ignoring or misplacing evidence that could have proved his innocence.

‘What they did uncover was rumors, gossip, outrageous lies and, most importantly, unreliable hearsay. Hearsay that pierced three privileges that have stood for centuries,’ Peterson lamented.

Earlier in the day, Peterson’s current legal team had argued for a new trial on grounds his former lead attorney, Joel Brodsky, botched the case, but Judge Burmila denied the motion.

Jurors convicted Peterson in September in the death of Savio, whose body was found in a dry bathtub with a gash on her head. Peterson is also a suspect in the 2007 disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, but hasn’t been charged in that case.

Peterson’s current legal team had argued that Brodsky failed to adequately defend the former Bolingbrook police sergeant. Brodsky stepped down from the defense team in November as the lawyerly strife worsened.

Among the accusations from Steve Greenberg, who was on the trial team and still represents Peterson, is that Brodsky forced Peterson to stage a pretrial media blitz that harmed the ex-officer’s cause.

Greenberg maintained that Brodsky made a decision on his own to call divorce lawyer Harry Smith as witness, a move that badly backfired on the defense. Brodsky has insisted the entire legal team agreed on trial strategy.

Smith told jurors that Stacy Peterson asked him just before she vanished about whether she could squeeze her husband for more money if she threatened to tell police he murder Savio three years earlier.

Brodsky wanted Smith to blunt Stacy Peterson’s credibility. Instead, he succeeded in stressing she sincerely thought her husband killed Savio. Several jurors said his testimony persuaded them to convict Peterson.

Drew Peterson’s 2012 trial was the first in Illinois history where prosecutors built their case on hearsay thanks in part to a new law, dubbed ‘Drew’s Law,’ tailored to the case. The hearsay, prosecutors said, let his wives ‘speak from their graves’ through family and friends.

The hearsay — any information reported by a witness not based on the witness’ direct knowledge — included a friend who said Savio told her Peterson once put a knife to her throat and warned her, ‘I could kill you and make it look like an accident.’

Before his 2009 arrest, the glib, cocky Peterson seemed to taunt authorities, suggesting a ‘Win a Date With Drew Contest’ and then, after his arrest, ‘Win a Conjugal Visit With Drew Contest.’ More recently, his story inspired a TV movie starring Rob Lowe.

The case began with a gruesome discovery. A neighbor came across Savio’s body March 1, 2004. She was face down in her dry bathtub, her thick, black hair soaked in blood and a two-inch gash was on the back of her head.

The drowning death of the 40-year-old aspiring nurse was initially deemed an accident. After Peterson’s fourth wife, 23-year-old Stacy Peterson, vanished in 2007, Savio’s body was exhumed, re-examined and her death reclassified as a homicide.

Drew Peterson had divorced Savio a year before her death. His motive for killing her, prosecutors said, was fear that a pending settlement would wipe him out financially.

Fascination nationwide with the case arose from speculation that Peterson sought to parlay three decades of law enforcement.
.
.

MURDER AND NOT AN ACCIDENT: THE CASE OF KATHLEEN’S DEATH

The biggest challenge facing prosecution attorneys was that because Peterson’s third wife’s death was originally deemed an accident, very scant evidence was ever collected let alone stored until they decided to reopen the case after his fourth wife Stacy disappeared.

As a result, much of the testimony in the case was hearsay.

A neighbor found Kathleen Savio’s body on March 1, 2004, face down in a dry bathtub of her suburban home outside Chicago.

Her thick black hair was blood-soaked and she had a 2-inch gash on the back of her head.
The drowning death of the 40-year-old aspiring nurse was initially deemed an accident – a freak slip in the tub.

Some of the testimony from Savio’s friends painted a grim portrait of her relationship with he husband.
Kristen Anderson testified that Savio told her Peterson once warned her at knife point, ‘I could kill you and make it look like an accident.’

Savio so feared for her life that she kept a knife under her mattress.

A former co-worker of Peterson’s, Jeff Pachter, testified that Peterson offered him ,000 to hire a hit man to kill Savio, though he never followed throu

STACY IS STILL MISSING: HOW THE DISAPPEARANCE CAUSED THE TRIAL

Four years later, the 23-year-old went missing in 2007.

This disappearance prompted Illinois State Police and the FBI to investigate, and they later had Savio’s body exhumed, re-examined and her death reclassified as a homicide.

When her sister called the police reporting Stacy’s disappearance, Peterson said that she had called him several days before and said that she left him for another man.

Her car was found at the International Airport.

One of the biggest aspects in the case of her disappearance was the issue of whether or not he disposed of her body in a large blue container, three of which he bought prior to when she went missing.

Stacy Peterson’s family hoped a conviction in Savio’s murder could lead to charges against Drew Peterson in Stacy’s disappearance.

Stacy’s pastor, Neil Schori, testified she told him that her husband got up from bed and left their house in the middle of the night around the time of Savio’s death.

A registered sex offender, released from jail less than a month ago, has been arrested and charged with murder in the death of an 8-year-old Florida girl abducted while shopping with her mother on Friday night.
The body of Charish Perriwinkle was found in front of Highlands Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday morning after a frantic search.

Donald James Smith of Jacksonville was taken into custody after police cornered his white van on Interstate 95. He had only been released from jail on May 31 after serving 438 days on felony charges of child abuse and unlawful impersonation of a public employee.

Authorities had put out an Amber Alert with details of Smith’s van early Saturday, hours after receiving a 911 call from Charish Perriwinkle’s mother about the missing girl.

Prior to the alleged abduction Friday night, Smith, 56, befriended Charish and her mother at a dollar store, and ‘offered to take them to Wal-Mart and buy her family some clothes,’ said Mike Williams, director of investigations at the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

‘They appeared to be down on their luck and he could help them out.’

After spending a couple hours inside the Wal-Mart together, Smith offered to buy hamburgers and walked with Charish to the front of the store, Williams said.

Charish’s mom agreed to let her go with the man she had only just met whilst she took care of her other two children and continued browsing the shelves.

Instead of stopping to buy the snack, Smith walked Charish outside and the two of them got into his van, Williams said.

The girl’s mother called 911 when she realized Charish and Smith were missing.

Less than an hour later, Charish was dead.

‘We located the body of Charish Perriwinkle,’ Officer Shannon Hartley said holding back tears. ‘It’s a very difficult time, obviously, for everyone involved.’

‘Hug your children closely right now and know where they’re at,’ Officer Hartley said. ‘Keep them close.’
Detectives say that within 30 minutes of Charish’s mom realizing she had left the store with the man, police were called.

An Amber Alert was issued and police searched the area with helicopters and ground units but did not find the suspect or the girl.

A tip about a suspicious van spotted in the woods near a church led investigators to Charish’s body Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, an officer working at the scene of a traffic crash on Interstate 95 on Saturday morning recognized Smith’s van as it drove past her and called it in.

The highway was shut down while other officers pulled Smith over and arrested him. He has not cooperated with investigators, Williams said, and it was not immediately known whether he had an attorney.

Williams declined to answer reporters’ questions about how Charish died or what Smith did in the hours between his disappearance with the girl and his arrest, saying that the investigation remains open.

Smith has been a registered sex offender since a 1993 conviction in Duval County for attempted kidnapping and selling obscene materials.

Previous arrests that date as far back as 1977 when Department of Corrections records show he was convicted of indecent assault on a child under the age of 16.

Prison records also show that Smith went to prison again in 1992 for attempted kidnapping. Court documents show he was convicted of that charge in addition to two counts of showing obscene material to a minor.

In 2003 prisons records show Smith served time for trafficking in stolen property and giving false information to a pawnbroker.

She was also arrested in 2009 on a charge of child abuse after making obscene phone calls to a 10-year-old girl, making verbal threats, and impersonating a social worker with the Florida Department of Children and Families who claimed to be investigating the girl’s family.

Smith pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges in that case in 2012 and was released from jail on May 31 this year.

Williams said Smith had just met with police Friday morning to comply with a state law that requires sex offenders to verify their address once a year.

Smith is set to appear in court at 9 a.m. Sunday morning.

Friendship is not just a word, to be spoken for the sake of speaking. It is the horizon which expands every time you approach it. It is something beyond the commitment which two individuals make for each other for their entire life because…

A friend is someone who knows what you are going through at all times.
It’s through their eyes that you see the world.

Friends give you courage to lift the blinds on our hearts, open up and show what we generally keep hidden from the rest of the world.
They stand besides you, when you need them with the warmth and support.
The friend is some one who knows the song in your heart, and can sing it back for you when you have forgotten the words.
Friend is someone who is concerned of everything you do; a friend is someone who is concerned of everything you think. Friendship is a term used to denote co-operative and supportive behaviour between two or more social entities. This testimonial focuses on the notion specific to interpersonal relationships. In this sense, the term connotes a relationship which involves mutual knowledge, esteem, and affection. Friends will welcome each other’s company and exhibit loyalty towards each other, often to the point of altruism. Their tastes will usually be similar and may converge, and they will share enjoyable activities. They will also engage in mutually helping behavior, such as exchange of advice and the sharing of hardship. A friend is someone who may often demonstrate reciprocating and reflective behaviors. Yet for many, friendship is nothing more than the trust that someone or something will not harm them ……………

Common Name: White Clover
Family : Fabaceae or Leguminosae
Synonyms : Trifolium repens L. var. atropurpureum
Known Hazards : This plant has been known to cause problems for grazing animals, though this has never happened in Britain[76]. The problem may be associated with the climate in which the plant is growing[76]. The species is polymorphic for cyanogenic glycosides[218]. The leaves and flowers of certain cyanogenic phenotypes contain a glycoside which releases cyanide on contact with the enzyme linamarase[218].
Habitats: Grassland and lawns, preferring a calcareous clay soil[9, 17].
Range: Europe, including Britain, from Norwat south and east to N.

Trifolium repens is an evergreen Perennial growing to 0.1 m (0ft 4in) by 1 m (3ft 3in) at a medium rate.
It is hardy to zone 4 and is not frost tender. It is in leaf 12-Jan It is in flower from Jun to September, and the seeds ripen from Jul to October. The flowers are hermaphrodite (have both male and female organs) and are pollinated by Bees.It can fix Nitrogen.

Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils, prefers well-drained soil and can grow in heavy clay and nutritionally poor soils. Suitable pH: acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils and can grow in very alkaline soils.
It cannot grow in the shade. It prefers moist soil.

Habitats
Ground Cover; Lawn;
Edible Uses
Edible Parts: Flowers; Leaves; Root.
Edible Uses: Condiment; Tea.

Leaves – raw or cooked as a potherb[13, 94, 183]. The young leaves are harvested before the plant comes into flower and are used in salads, soups etc[9]. They can also be used as a vegetable, cooked like spinach[9]. The leaves are best cooked[172]. Flowers and seed pods are dried, ground into powder and used as a flour or sprinkled on cooked foods such as boiled rice[183]. Very wholesome and nutritious[115]. The young flowers can also be used in salads[144, 172, 183]. Root – cooked[172, 177]. The dried leaves impart a vanilla flavour to cakes etc[172]. Dried flowering heads are a tea substitute.

Medicinal Uses
Plants For A Future can not take any responsibility for any adverse effects from the use of plants. Always seek advice from a professional before using a plant medicinally.

Antirheumatic; Antiscrophulatic; Depurative; Detergent; Ophthalmic; Tonic.

The plant is antirheumatic, antiscrophulatic, depurative, detergent and tonic[218]. An infusion has been used in the treatment of coughs, colds, fevers and leucorrhoea[257]. A tincture of the leaves is applied as an ointment to gout[218]. An infusion of the flowers has been used as an eyewash[257].

Other Uses
Green manure.
The plant makes a good green manure, it is useful for over-wintering, especially in a mixture with Lolium perenne[87]. Produces a good bulk. It is a host to ‘clover rot’ however, so should not be used too frequently[87]. It can be undersown with cereals or with tomatoes in a greenhouse (sow the seed before planting the tomatoes)[87]. Fairly deep rooting but not very fast growing[87]. A good fast ground-cover plant for a sunny position[87].

Cultivation details
Succeeds in a moist, well-drained circum-neutral soil in full sun, preferring a sweet calcareous clay soil. Succeeds in poor soils. A very important food plant for the caterpillars of many butterfly and moth species[30] it is also a good bee plant[54]. A good companion plant in the lawn, tolerating trampling[18, 54], but it dislikes growing with henbane or members of the buttercup family[18]. It grows well in an apple orchard, the trees will produce tastier fruit that stores better[201]. It should not be grown with camellias or gooseberries because it harbours a mite that can cause fruit drop in the gooseberries and premature budding in the camellias[201]. Polymorphic, there are many subspecies and varieties. Some varieties have also been selected for use in lawn mixes[183]. This species has a symbiotic relationship with certain soil bacteria, these bacteria form nodules on the roots and fix atmospheric nitrogen. Some of this nitrogen is utilized by the growing plant but some can also be used by other plants growing nearby[200]. Buttercups growing nearby depress the growth of the nitrogen bacteria by means of a root exudate[201].

Propagation
Pre-soak the seed for 12 hours in warm water and then sow in spring in situ. If the seed is in short supply it might be better to sow it in pots in a cold frame. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and plant them out in late spring. Division in spring[238].

Abstract
From the whole plant of white clover, Trifolium repens, five new triterpenoid saponins, designated cloversaponins I-V, were isolated together with four known saponins, beta-D-glucoronopyranosylsoyasapogenol B, soyasaponin I, soyasaponin II and azukisaponin II as their methyl esters. Their structures were determined by 2H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopy and chemical evidence.

My Speech
relationship advice

My brother weighs 55 kilograms. He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother.

I don’t know what Zoey weighs, but she’s not heavy, and I’m proud to welcome her into the family as my sister …. Finally we will have a Sevitz who can sing

My brother is a very lucky man today. I’m sure everyone here is a little bit jealous. If you think about how few people have a such a good looking, intelligent, fun, witty, charming, awesome, humorous and all round fantastic …. brother who they can ask to be their best man. Zoey of course also has these attributes in spades, and to this we can add beautiful, pretty, gorgeous and someone who is lovely to be around.

I must be honest I don’t know Zoey as well as I would like to, having moved to London before my bother and her started dating. Of course Zoey is one of those extremely friendly people who are really easy to get along with, and it’s been a pleasure meeting and getting to know her these last few years.

Zoey is also called Zoo. Either it’s because of her love of animals, … or more likely because my brother doesn’t know how to do deel tekkens on the keyboard.

My brother Jonathan, is also called Jon. But only by his friends and only when my mother isn’t around. When we were growing up , if a friend called and ask to speak to Jon my mother would say – “no one by that name lives here” – and would hang up the phone. I’m not sure how many social arrangements my brother missed out on as a result but he then adopted the nickname of Nodge, which is Jon spelt backwards. In hindsight I think my mother should have let his mates call him Jon.

Let me give you a little flavor, a potted history if you like of Nodge, Jon, Jonathan, my brother …

One day when we were kids, during a family braai we decided to play hide and seek. When it was Jonathan’s turn to hide, we counted to the requisite number and started looking for him. After about half and hour we couldn’t find him at all, and went to watch TV or do something else.

Several hours pass and the grown ups ask where Jonathan is. We said we didn’t know, that we were playing hide and seek and couldn’t find him so gave up. Naturally this worried the parents and all the adults walked around calling out his name to try find him. My brother could hear his name being called but assumed we were just trying to trick him into losing and stayed hidden.

More time passes. More worry ensues. Eventually, just shy of calling the police to report him as missing – he was found. Quietly standing … as he had been for the last 4 plus hours … not moving …. behind the curtain in his bedroom.

And that’s my brother. He doesn’t look competitive but likes winning in the never give up, even if you have to stand not making a noise … perfectly still … behind a curtain. For 4 hours.

My brother’s also the kind of person who’s intensely loyal and high on my list of people to come bail me out of jail should I ever need it. As way of example, when I was last in South Africa, we were stuck the Vaal river, and fancied coming back to early. Jonathan kindly came and picked us up, on a Friday, in rush hour, from the Vaal. Which isn’t something anyone wants to be doing on a Friday afternoon.

Although I have also been told that when Zoey asked the same thing of him, he said no. So maybe this loyalty is related on the fact I’m a blood match, if he ever needs a kidney. I mean there Zoey was, locked in her bedroom – in fear for her life. She phones Jonathan and says he he has to come help her. Now. Right now. Jonathan says No, he’s just landed in Durban. Zoey nearing tears, insists Jon get on the next flight, and comes to save her. Jon holds steadfast and says firmly, no, she’s going to have man up, get a weapon, unlock the bedroom door, deal with that spider herself.

Growing up, my brother and I were quite different. If we were given three sweets, mine would be gone in about 7 seconds. Jonathan would manage to make his last several hours. Which as an older brother is about the most frustrating thing on the planet. In fact to this day I’m not entirely unconvinced he didn’t do this just to annoy me.

As he grew up my brother my brother excelled through out school scoring well academically showing that my claims to be the smart good looking one in the family where only half true.

My dad tells me that when it came to his matriculation, he vaguely mentions that he thinks he might have won some award. “Some award” turned out to 6 separate academic awards for excellence, as well as being named “dux scholar”. I’m not sure if that means we can add “humble” to the list of his attributers, or just oblivious.

Leaving school, my brother took a year off and went to Israel with Netzer. After spending a year in Israel with about two dozen Australians, the main thing my brother appeared to learn was how to walk around the house in dirty underwear whilst belching and breaking wind a lot. Fortunately for Zoey we broke him of this habit and off he went to study at Wits, in the family tradition; engineering.

Continuing to show me up academically, he followed this with a masters in environmental engineering. For this I am actually quite grateful, as it’s allowed me the excuse of being shoddy at recycling by claiming that karma wise having an environmental engineer as a brother compensates. To date this excuse has not held water with my girlfriend, but I remain eternally the optimist.

Somewhere during this time he went on holiday with a few friends from Netzer. One of those friends was a girl called Zoey who he had met about 10 years prior, at camp. At the time he met Zoey he was dating someone else and him and Zoey just became friends. He was also “just friends” when he went on this holiday with Zoey. He was not, “just friends” when he returned. Which all in all was a good thing as it leads us to today.

My brother also has a love for adventuring. He enjoys the outdoors , hiking and I recall him taking up canoeing at one point. Clearly this is something Zoey shares, a highlight of which is their climb of Kilimajro a few years back. From what I understand it’s the kind of achievement made slightly easier by the dog minded personality of someone who can stand behind a curtain for 4 hours.

Of course this stubbornness has also led my brother to do things like getting his car stuck on a sandbank. And then after getting towed to safety, driving right back onto it and getting stuck again.

So that’s my brother. Academically gifted, loyal, steadfast, reliable, moderately stubborn, an adventurer and working for the greater environmental good of society. All in all for all the fights, and veribbles and sibling rivalry I couldn’t ask for a better brother, nor could I claim not intensely proud of my brother and his achievements. I have no fears or worries for him or the future, as I know not only will he achieve everything he wants to but a great deal more to boot.

Zoey whilst my brother is the kind of person who will land up getting your perfume confiscated at airport security, stuck on sandbanks and never cook you anything more complex than a slice of toast, he will never let you down in anything that really matters. As someone who has lived with him far longer than you, I can safely say, your life will always be entertaining, always full of humor and you’ll have someone by your side who will always love you.

Of course this does lead me to ask … when he is at your side, what do you talk about. I’m not entirely sure it’s each other. Let me explain

On the stag do, we asked him a few dozen questions in the format of “What would Zoey say if asked the following question and then got Zoey to answer all the questions before the event. For example, What would Zoey say if asked “What is Jonathan’s favorite ice cream”.

My brother got somewhere in the region of 80% of the answers wrong, which is quite a spectacular fail rate. This did however reveal the following …

Zoey knows more about my brother, than my brother knows about … himself.
My brother agreed with all of Zoey’s answers upon hearing the correct answer. I suspect this is the secret to a long and stable relationship. God knows I’ve not yet learnt this lesson.
My brothers favorite ice cream is not fudge as he thought but mango as Zoey correctly established.
If my brother was a super hero he would be “Excel-man – saving the world one spreadsheet at a time.”. In other news my brother needs to perhaps get out slightly more.
Both Jon and Zoey’s ideal night out is dinner and a movie. Which is one of the few questions he got right. And probably just as well.
and finally … It would be considered highly romantic if my brother purchased a 4×4 for Valentines day.

It was also reveled by Jon’s friends that he goes to gym a lot more when interested in a girl. Zoey I’ve checked up on his gym records since he met you, and his attendance has been exemplary. I think you might be in there.

I started this speech with title of the Hollies song “He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother.”

The song starts with these words

The road is long
With many a winding turn
That leads us to who knows where
Who knows when

The road so far has brought you to each other. The next winding turns and bumps, potholes, traffic calming zones and robots that are out of order is the next step in this journey. Aside from Jon’s tendency to get lost, and Zoey’s map reading I have a lot of faith for your future on this road together.

My only advice I feel you need for an enduring relationship is this. Buy a satnav.

That aside, the love and affection you have for each other is obvious. Keep this as your bedrock and you’ll be fine.

If everyone could all please rise I’d like to make a toast to my brother and his lovely wife.

… everyone rises …

“to the bridge and groom” … “to the bridge and groom”

And with that, I’d like to introduce my brother. Who will thank me profusely for being awesome. He might also say a few nice things about Zoey.

——-

Note I spelt Zoë name as Zoey so I would pronounce right and not say Zo (rhyming with Low)

Battle of the Bulge: Achilles Tank (M10 Tank Destroyer)
relationship advice

East of Bastogne is the Bastogne Historical Center and the Mardasson Memorial to the Battle of the Bulge. There is a collection of tanks there, including this one, an Achilles, better known as the M-10 Tank Destroyer.

The M-10 and the M-18 Tank Destroyers were really busy in Bastogne, fighting alongside Shermans and light tanks against the German panzer divisions. One of the interesting points is that General McAuliffe of the 101st Airborne (remember, General Taylor was back in the US when they were deployed) and Col. Roberts (I believe he was a Colonel) of the 10th Armored formed a working relationship after the fight at Noville so that the infantry of the 101st and the armored infantry and tanks of the 10th would be used optimally. They issued orders and advice to all of the commanders and that helped the Americans optimize the use of tanks. One of the lessons they learned was to keep the US tanks in a sort of reserve and deploy them up on the line when an attack occured, rather than to have them in a static position. That allowed the Americans to concentrate their armor in sectors where the Germans were attacking, in effect neutralizing the numerical advantage the Germans had. Luckily the Americans had just enough gasoline to pull this off. After any deployment, gasoline was drained from the American vehicles, including tanks, jeeps and trucks, in the event they were destroyed by artillery or aerial bombing. Then they’d be gassed up and sent into action. At the nadir, the Americans were down to 500 gallons of gas left, but the December 23rd air drop helped.
